As many in the space already know, there are many uses of Blockchain Technology. Banks and Corporations intend to use Blockchain to institute faster more secure transactions and to facilitate smart contracts. But how else can Blockchain be used? Civic uses Blockchain Technology to secure personal data to help in the fight against identity theft, by applying user information to the Blockchain it will prevent user’s information from being modified or stolen by malicious third parties.
How can Blockchain be used to help those displaced by natural disasters such as Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods, and Fires? IBM is developing Blockchain Technology that will assist in just that: Disaster Management Solution
Being able to store proof of ownership, medical records and identity on the Blockchain would go a long way in helping people rebuild their lives after a natural disaster. But the main way that Blockchain can help victims of disasters such as in Flint, Michigan and Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria is in finance and resources. Blockchain companies are in a perfect position to raise funds and have material needs moved into the damaged areas.
Actor and investor Ashton Kutcher and Tech Company, Ripple, famously gave a donation of $4 million dollars in XRP to The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund, showing how easy it is to transfer funds via phone instead of presenting a check. Cryptocurrency allows for funds to change hands much faster than traditional means in areas where local services are in disarray. A store owner in Puerto Rico may be able to reopen their store faster if they are able to convert 5 BTC into $36123.40 to buy inventory and fix damage to their store.
This same pattern can be repeated with funding for solar panels, for food, for clothing, materials to rebuild homes and schools. In the case of Flint, Michigan where people are still being told to use bottled water, Cryptocurrency can be used to purchase these items or as in the Puerto Rico example, buy those bottles of water so that the citizens affected by the water crisis are able to drink safe water. Additionally, companies can lobby local governments to remove barriers that are holding up the restoration of clean water sources.
Being able to buy a Lambo is good but being able to show the world that this space is capable of so much more is even better.
